The Leipzig Story

RB Leipzig Story

After a good pre season, RB Leipzig settled into their debut season of the European Championship with a heavy 6-2 at home against Title Favourites Real Madrid.
Leipzig gave up too much possession in midfield and were out muscled by the Spanish giants and created few chances on the Madrid goal, Klostermann and Werner's penalty were the highlights for the home side.
The manager "stevie" was unavailable for comment after the match, we understand he was upset with his team's performance.

One piece of good news and fans were delighted this evening when veteran Italian Goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon arrived at the club on a 1 year deal from Juventus for a fee rumoured to be £20 million.
Buffon is seen as still having lots to offer on the pitch and on the training ground, will Buffon start in Sunday's match?

Leipzig in Trouble

RB Leipzig are experiencing tough times, with only 1 win 6 League and Cup matches and suffering their 2nd successive defeat last night losing 2-1 at Tottenham Hotspur in England.
Timo Werner put Leipzig 1-0 only for Tottenham to hit back with 2 goals and send the club to another defeat and pile more pressure on manager "STEVIE".
New signing J Toljan had a less than impressive debut in defense, the manager may have to change his formation and tactics as Leipzig are too open for attacking teams.  Keita and Demme have been holding the midfield well but many players are letting the club down with their performances.
Orban and Upamecano need help at the back as both defenders are playing well and but having to hold up the backline, things to need to change fast at the club if they are to avoid relegation.

The manager was unavailable for comment.....

Re: The Leipzig Story

Leipzig Still Fighting

After last night's 3-2 defeat at the San Bernabeu against Real Madrid, head coach "Stevie" was still upbeat about his team beating the drop to the European 3 next season.
RB Leipzig put on a spirited show last night although losing 3-2 their were positives, with Keita having a great game in midfield and new signing Jesus Corona busy in a 4-4-2 and scored on his debut.
The head coach may a change to a new look 4-4-2 and the team settled well into the style of play, against any other team in the division the results could have been more favourable.

Currently Leipzig are 3 points above the relegation zone, the club have home games against Liverpool, Tottenham, Fc Basle where they will need to take points as 5 of their last 8 matches are away from home.
Sunday sees Liverpool welcomed to the Red Bull Arena and have a new manager and 2nd in the league so will not be an easy game.  But fans and head coach are positive the club can avoid the drop, but if relegation occurs the head coach has stated he would like to stay and lead the club in European 3 next season.

Re: The Leipzig Story

Leipzig Manager Despondant

RB Leipzig head coach was shell shocked after team's disappointing 4-1 home defeat by high flying Liverpool on Sunday night. Leipzig were over ran by Liverpool and the players heads dropped very quickly, with morale low things are not looking good for the club's survival chances.
Timo Werner scored Leipzig's only goal of the match, K Laimer had a good game in midfield and is currently wanted by several clubs.  RB stuck with the 4-4-2 formation but the players seemed restricted and not able to play expansive football.

Many of the fans started booing come the final whistle, and some even leaving the RB Arena as the club slumped to yet another defeat there 3rd defeat in 6 matches and only 1 win in their last 5 matches.
The players turned up for training this morning looking very dejected and not much spirit was seen on the training ground, now is a real test for the head coach, can "Stevie" turn the club around with only 7 matches left in the league season.
We understand that at the end of this morning's training session, the head coach and coaching staff sat down with the players one by one, suggesting that wholesale changes are imminent at the club.
Can RB rally ahead of tomorrow night's away trip to Holland and playing Feyenoord.

Re: The Leipzig Story

Leipzig Running Out of Games

RB Leipzig go into the last 5 matches of the regular season just above the relegation zone, only staying out of relegation places due to FC Basle and PSV playing worse football.
PSV look doomed with only 5 points and 1 win all season, FC Basle are only 2 points behind Leipzig.
FC Basle have Liverpool (this weekend), Feyennord (H), then play RB Leipzig in the crunch match in week 16, Tottenham (H) and PSV (A), meanwhile RB Leipzig have Tottenham (this weekend), Liverpool (A), crunch match with FC Basle (H),  Marseille (A) and Spartak Moscow (A).

The home match with FC Basle is the key game, as Leipzig have 3 away fixtures so Head Coach "Stevie" will need to rally his players and find a formation and style that suits the players.  This season he has chopped and changed formations not really finding the right formation and the players really need to lift themselves and play for the club to stay up.
Can the experience of Zlatan Imbrahimovic up front be a key?  Herrera and Jones who also joined from Manchester United should be able to bring their experience and help the players lift their football.
A nailbiting couple of weeks for the fans......

Re: The Leipzig Story

Night of Disaster

Last night was seen as a night of disaster for RB Leipzig, after losing 3-0 to bottom club PSV Eindhoven and then with FC Basle beating feyenoord 2-1 it sent Leipzig to foot of the table.
The game started badly as PSV went 1-0 after just 2 minutes when Reis scored, PSV continued to attack the Leipzig goal.  Imbrahimovic went close for Leipzig on 15mins, Jesus Corona hit the bar on 25 mins as Leipzig searched for the equaliser.
On 29 minutes Hererra was brought down and RB should have a penalty but referee ignored the pleas, PSV were reduced to 10 men on stroke of halftime.  On 50th minutes RB thought they had scored but for a fantastic save by PSV keeper Zoet, then on 52 minutes Herrera floats a shot over the bar as RB continued to press for that equaliser.  Laimer hit the post on 57 minutes for RB, as it looked like their luck would be running out then Klostermann hits the post on 59 minutes.
RB fans were getting anxious now, Then PSV struck again for their 2nd goal on 62 mins, RB players continued to attack waved on the by manager.  As the game came to a close PSV hit their 3rd goal on 85 mins and it was allover.  The RB players looked dejected at the final whistle, and the manager shook his head as everyone trudged off the pitch.

The RB Board have called the manager into the club this lunchtime for crisis talks.......

Re: The Leipzig Story

Head Coach Considering Position

After is bad night on Wednesday and crisis talks at RB Leipzig on Thursday we understand that Head Coach "Stevie" is considering his position at the club. The club have given him the vote of confidence to keep the club in the 2nd tier, fans in a recent poll were 58% against him keeping the club in the division.
Its been a tough season right from the opening day 6-2 defeat to Real Madrid and now the club have hit rock bottom, and the players are disgruntled with the tactics and formations being employed.
It seems the Head Coach has lost control of the changing room and support of the fans and could make his position very precarious.

Training this morning was conducted by Assistant Manager Norbert Egbert and there was no sign of the Head Coach, which has fans and social media alike wondering if he is still involved with the club?
We will bring any breaking news...
