POMPEY CHIMES

Last night all but ended Pompey's adventure in the Champions League, a 3-1 home defeat to Real Madrid in the eyes of the boss "pompeywilson" has finished their chances of making an historic Semi Finals.
Pompey played well and matched the Spanish Giants most of the game, the main difference being the finishing of the Spanish side especially Dybala and Robben.
In the press conference after the game, the pompey boss spoke:-
"We played our usual style but in honesty Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid are both leaps ahead of us in stature, reputation and players available. I think we need to strengthen, now we will using remaining Champions League games to try and few things out and then concentrate on a top 4 league finish to comeback next season."

Sensible words from the manager, and many fans on social media agree that Pompey had a good season last term and but have not moved forward so far this season. It will be up to the boss now to pick up his players and look to build more strength going forward through the season.

Pompey into Quarter Finals

Good result last night saw Portsmouth move into the Quarter Finals of the League Cup with a comprehensive 7-1 win over League One Blackpool.  Marcus Rashford led the way with two goals and finally a good performance from him, POMPEY's midfield controlled the match with Octavio and Caio key players with their passing skills and setting up the goals.
Defensively the team played well and kept things tight, the team stuck with a 3-1-3-2-1 formation with Grimaldo bossing defense and on the scoresheet, Boschilia was massive in the Defensive midfield role.
Paulinho, Caio, Octavio were the three middies that controlled passing and set up 3 of the goals.

Unfortunately, the U21s were not so lucky and lost 3-1 to Everton but put on the good show at Goodison Park.

Re: POMPEY CHIMES

POMPEY SO CLOSE

It was disappointment but heads held high for Portmouth FC, their first ever campaign in the Champions League and just missed out on the semi finals.  After a poor start in Group B, POMPEY rallied and last night a momentus 4-3 win at Real Madrid lifted the fans and hope of being in the last four.
But the result coming in from New White Hart Lane that Atletico Madrid had earned a 3-3 draw left many tears as the POMPEY fans realised they had missed out.
Fans were still chanting "pompeywilson's Blue and White army, pomeywilson's Blue and White army" rang out loud in the Spanish night sky.

POMPEY had to dig deep as Real bossed the possession and passing as expected at home, but the Blue and white dug in and Rashford hit the net for the 3rd consecutive match and pompey fought hard and pulled off a stunning 4-3 win.  If only matchs before had gone differently now the team need to battle hard to qualify again for next season's expanded Champions League.
Manager "Pompeywilson" was seen applauding his players and the fans on a Champions League journey of ups and downs.........

Pompey in Quarter Finals

Tonight Portsmouth take to the Elland Road pitch looking to book their place in the semi finals with victory over Leeds United, amidst rumors manager "pompeywilson" has been approached by Chelsea to fill the vacant role at Stamford Bridge.  Fans were shocked to here the news, but the players are focused for tonight's cup match and expecting a win over struggling Leeds, behind the scenes the club have been in talks with former boss Mourinho about a return to Fratton Park should the current boss leave.
Its been a hectic day of talks and ins and outs at Fratton Park, but the main focus should be tonight, we understand from tonight's teamsheet news Pompey will line up with a 3-4-3 formation and 39 year old Zlatan Imbrahimovic returns to the starting 11 to provide some goalscoring instinct in the team.

Re: POMPEY CHIMES

POMPEY GOING ENGLISH

The new Pompey Boss over the last couple of weeks has started dismantling the team built by former manager ColinW, its clear that boss "Jose Mourinho" now with 3rd stint at the club has decided to back to english players to develop and lead the club forward.
With former Pompey players Jamal Lowe, Conor Chaplin and Ollie Hawkins all returning to Fratton Park, Andre Green has also comeback, Tom Cleverly, Jack Wilshere, Ikechi Anya have also joined the revolution at Fratton Park.  The previous manager was keen on Brazilian players particularly in midfield, but Jose has transferred off Octvaio, Ganso and Caio and Boschilia are believed to me next in line, its also rumored Arnautovic who has only been at the club a couple of weeks will also be offloaded.
Its clear "Mourinho" has a plan in mind for how he wants his team to play.....

Tonight a full house is expected at Fratton Park as POMPEY take on Wolves in the League Cup Semi Finals, and its expected that Chaplin and Green will start a new partnership in attack.

BLUES BACK IN TRAINING EARLY

Pompey Boss "Jose Mourinho" had his players back in early for pre season training ahead of the new season, he knows they have big season ahead after two successive 4th place finishes and another Champions League campaign to look forward too in the season.
This season will be tougher with likes of Arsenal, Leicester, Man City and Nottm Forest in the mix, Tottenham with a new manager so POMPEY will need to continue improving and tactically if they are to stay in the top four again for the new season.
The boss has surprised many with the sales of Fernando Torres, Marko Arnautovic and Marcus Rashford, looks like he us going with the younger talent of Chaplin, Hawkins and Green.
Samir Nasri will again be the playmaker and lead the midfield, with Behrami, wilshere, Cleverly and Lingaard likely to play key roles as the boss has gone to building a more english based squad.
Defense is looking strong with same backline from last season, with McGee and Forster battling for the keepers jersey.  Fans are excited ahead of the new season and waiting to see who they will be drawn with in the Champions League.

POMPEY READY FOR PREMIER LEAGUE

All looks well at Portsmouth, after a very good pre season where the club lifted the Sevilla Cup with 3 victories including one over Italian giants Juventus, backed up by a comfortable win over Spanish new boys Getafe.
The front three of Ollie Hawkins, Conor Chaplin and Andre Green have teamed up well, Cleverly and Jones are combining well in defensive midfield roles.  Lingaard, Nasri and Wilshere have also worked well with their passing skills and the Pompey midfield is looking good for the season.
Manager "Jose Mourinho" has been working his team hard and drilling them in training and all things look set for a good season. Fans are excited  for the new season and expanded Fratton Park.

POMPEY TAKE THE POINTS

A good Premier League match last night infront of 42,743 at Fratton Park saw the home side pick up 3 points with a solid 3-0 win over Everton sending the Toffees bottom of the table.
Che Adams scored his 2nd goal in 2 games since joining the club, Tom Cleverly also scored along with Jones, Cleverly put in a solid assured performance as a DM and rewarded with the Man of the Match.
Samir Nasri and Conor Chapling were both also busy in the game, the win moves the Blues up to 6th place after opening 2 rounds of the Premier League.

The team are now having the morning off before preparing to welcome CSKA Moscow on Wednesday night in the Champions League, the club have also announced plans to build a new 80,000 seater stadium which will be built on Fratton Park and expanded to keep some of the flavour of the old ground with its heritage from 1898 the club's formation.  These plans have gone down well with the fans, and show signs the club are building for the future and looking to become a top European and World Class club.

Re: POMPEY CHIMES

LEAGUE CUP CAMPAIGN GETS STARTED

Not the best performance but a 1-0 win last night saw Pompey move into the last 16 of the League Cup against Leeds United.  Fulham made Pompey work hard last night and it was'nt until the 78th minute that Pompey got the breakthrough with returning Ollie Hawkins getting the winner.
It was a good battle in midfield and with few chances, Pompey had to bide them time and keeping working right to the final whistle, but will be happy to go through.

Wednesday night sees Pompey away at Rosenborg on Matchday 4 of the Champions League, a win and results going their way could seal qualification for the last 16.
Bell is out suspended, otherwise full squad available for boss "Jose Mourinho", Hawkins is likely to keep his place with Chaplin in attack, either Green or Adams will be the other striker.  midfield and defense we think will go at full strength to get the win.
